Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa) is a feminist, pan African, rapid response Fund, committed to transforming power relations through resourcing African feminists and womn[1] human rights defenders and their formations as an act of solidarity.
We are a part of the ecosystem of feminist and womn’s movements in Africa and globally. In character we are bold and courageous, proactive and responsive, creative and rigorous, curious, alert and agile, imaginative and grounded, consistent and reliable.

Emergency subsidies for COVID-19

  1. COVID-19 Crisis Fund for feminist activists – The Urgent Action Fund is making donations to feminist activists working on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic response. The Fund prioritizes activities related to issues such as wellness, community care, remote work and digital meetings, online advocacy campaigns, COVID-19 awareness campaigns and support for vulnerable populations.   1. Global emergency fund COVID-19 LGBTIQ – OutRIght Action International has launched a fund that provides emergency financial assistance to LGBTIQ organizations that address the impact of COVID-19 on the global LGBTIQ community Click here
  2. Elton John AIDS Foundation Emergency Fund COVID-19 – Recognizing that people living with AIDS are extremely vulnerable due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Elton John AIDS Foundation has launched a fund to fund solutions to address the specific challenges faced by people living with AIDS during this time. . Projects should focus on mitigating the COVID-19 threat to HIV / AIDS positive people and / or increasing access to HIV health care programs. Click here
  3. LGBTQ funding resources – LGBT Funders has compiled a substantial list of rapid response resources for organizations and individuals seeking to address COVID-19’s unique impact on the global LGBTI community. Click here
  4. Above and Beyond Solidarity Fund – Thousand Currents (formerly IDEX) has launched a fund to support organizations that support communities to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants will go to organizations working on issues such as access to information, rural health care, support for those who have lost their jobs, infrastructure in informal settlements to promote social distancing and broader security concerns, including gender violence and police brutality. Click here
  5. Open Technology Fund -The Open Technology Fund provides funding to organizations that work to guarantee internet freedom and access to information worldwide. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OTF is increasing the pool of funds available to organizations working specifically on access to information related to the pandemic. Projects and grant applications working on COVID-19 interventions are prioritized. Click here
  6. Peace First – Peace First has started offering quick response donations to serve COVID-19. The grants will go to youth and activists starting projects to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 worldwide. Click here
  7. National Geographic Covid-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists – This National Geographic Fund will provide funds for journalists around the world working to cover COVID-19 and its impact on their communities. Donations prioritize projects that aim to deliver news and information to underserved communities. Click here
  8. Format- Format provides $ 500 grants to freelance photographers who have been financially affected by the pandemic coronavirus. Click here
  9. Writers Emergency Fund – Pen America is providing grants of $ 500 to $ 1,000 to writers who demonstrate acute financial need due to the pandemic. Click here
  10. Women’s Photography Emergency Fund – This fund supports independent women and non-binary photojournalists facing loss of business income due to the pandemic. Click here
  11. The International Women’s Media Foundation – The IWMF is taking cases of journalist relief funds that identify women who have been economically impacted by the pandemic. They currently accept cases in English, Spanish, French and Chinese for up to $ 2,000. Click here
  12. Artist + activist fund – The Soze Foundation has started a fund to support artists and activists whose work has been directly affected by the coronavirus. Currently only accepts applicants based in the US. But it is exploring ways to provide grants to activists and artists around the world. Click here
  13. Knight CFJ International Journalism Award – The International Center for Journalists offers awards to journalists from around the world covering the COVID-19 pandemic. Nominees must be journalists who have pioneered the pandemic’s coverage or innovations in the media that have had a major impact. Click here
  14. Substack – Sub stack is donating $ 100,000 in donations to freelance writers at Sub stack who are experiencing financial difficulties due to the pandemic. Click here
  15. Corona virus Rapid Response Fund- The Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation is offering funding to CSOs working in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine on projects to mitigate the effect of the pandemic. Projects must focus on swift assistance to vulnerable groups, preserve good governance and accountability, counter false news, and adjust more broadly to the new reality that the corona virus has created. Click here
  16. CDP COVID-19 Response Fund –The Center for Disaster Philanthropy is awarding grants to nonprofits that work to combat the impacts of the corona virus pandemic among vulnerable populations. Click here
  17. The Global Resilience Fund

-The Global Resilience Fund supports girl and young women activists at this watershed moment, with fully flexible rapid response grants of up to $5,000. Applications for the fund are now open! Click here
